Portland may not be considered a taco town, per se, but we've got you covered next time that craving hits — whether it be for carne asada, carnitas or chipotle-braised soy curls (for all the vegans out there).
- Thanks to the readers who wrote in with their recommendations.
Of note: These are all great. The order is random.
Tito's Taquitos
3449 N. Anchor St. (brick-and-mortar location), 3975 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy. (food cart)
While the taquitos here stand out, the menu also offers made-to-order, hand-pressed tacos filled with shrimp, beer-battered fish, citrus-marinated pork or other meat and vegetarian items.
- One reader said, "It's honestly not just the best in town, it's some of the best food I have ever had in my entire LIFE."
Santa Fe Taqueria
831 NW 23rd Ave.
One of the few sit-down restaurants where you'll find tacos after 9pm — and it's open till midnight.
- Thanks for the recommendation, Anna F.!
Chilango PDX
2217 NE Alberta St.
This vegan taqueria made the list of Yelp's top 100 taco spots for 2023 — one of only three Portland restaurants that received the honor.
- Order the black mole hibiscus flower taco. It's an unlikely twist on a classic Mexican flavor.
Taquería Los Puñales
3312 SE Belmont St.
Focused on tacos guisados — where the meat is tenderized via braise — this spot also boasts a colorful selection of housemade frescas and salsas.
Antojitos Mexicanos Taqueria
11516 NE Sandy Blvd.
Right off Highway 205, this no-frills counter service joint slings out large portions and a salsa bar featuring its signature peanut sauce (a customer favorite).
Meira's thought bubble: I found this place after shopping at Ikea in the midst of a hangry haze and it did not disappoint!
Matt's BBQ Tacos
2204 NE Alberta St. and 2216 SE 50th Ave.
BBQ in taco form? We're sold.
- This is also where Portlanders can find breakfast tacos outside Texas. Don't forget to add queso, though.
