Hurricane Francine lashed Louisiana on Wednesday as a Category 2 storm, bringing with it driving rains, wind and storm surge along the coastline.
The big picture: Street flooding, some of which impacted homes and businesses, downed trees and power lines, and some overtopped canals were common sights across the New Orleans metro overnight Wednesday and into Thursday.
- Much of coastal area hit by Francine is still recovering from Hurricane Ida in 2021, which rocked the state's fishing communities closest to the Gulf of Mexico.
Zoom in: The storm made landfall as a Category 2, but was downgraded to a tropical depression by early Thursday as it moved across Mississippi and
toward Memphis, Tennessee and Arkansas.
