Texas made their decisions in the presidential election and beyond, sending former President Trumpto the White House and reelecting U.S. Sen Ted Cruz, according to the Associated Press.
Why it matters: Texas had been viewed as an opportunity for Democrats to expand the playing field and be in a position to steal Republican Senate seats, as Axios' Hans Nichols and Stephen Neukam reported — but those hopes did not work out for Vice President Harris or U.S. Rep. Colin Allred.
Zoom in: Former Mayor Sylvester Turner, a Democrat, won the late Sheila Jackson Lee's seat in U.S. House District 18. U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, a Republican, was reelected for U.S. District 2.
However, some local races were too close to call as of 6am. The Harris County district attorney and county attorney races are still undecided as poll workers continue to count ballots. Incumbent Democratic Sheriff Ed Gonzalez claimed victory.
