The Hebrew calendar — also called the Jewish calendar — is timed according to the moon, with a "leap" month added seven times in every 19-year cycle.
Zoom in: There are several menorah lighting events across Dallas-Fort Worth this weekend. Here's a peek:
🕯️ Mall menorah. Galleria Dallas will have a Hanukkah lighting at 5pm Sunday on Level 1 near Zara.
🕎 Outdoor lighting. Chabad Fort Worth is hosting a free community celebration at 5:30pm Sunday with a menorah lighting.
🔦 Light show. JCC Dallas is hosting a Festival of Laser Light, 3:30-5:15pm Sunday. $5 for ages 4-12. $18 for 12 and up.
The community center has a daily candle lighting with dreidel giveaways at 5pm through Dec. 21.
🚒 Fire truck gelt drop.Chanukah at Southlake Town Square starts at 5:30pm Sunday with a menorah lighting, music and a gelt drop. Donations benefit the Caring Kitchen of Southlake.
🎤 Rapping celebration. A Chanukah menorah lighting at the Shops at Willow Bend starts at 5pm Monday, which includes a performance by Ari Lesser.
