Frisco residents will soon have to share their city with Shrek, SpongeBob and the Minions — and tourists trying to spend time with the popular characters.
Why it matters: WhileUniversal's theme parks usually cater to both kids and adults, Universal Kids Resort will focus on young children and their families.
The Frisco theme park, under construction since 2023, will be an "absolute celebration of what it is to be a kid," Universal Creative executive vice president Brian Robinson said in a news release.
The latest: The resort off Dallas North Tollway will have seven themed lands, featuring Shrek, Puss in Boots, Minions, Jurassic World, Trolls and SpongeBob, according to details shared this month by the company.
The Jurassic World Adventure Camp, for example, will have dinosaur-themed rides, prehistoric era-themed play areas and meet-and-greets with baby dinosaur characters.
One rendering shows a ride resembling a lazy river.
An Isle of Curiosity will let children roam freely and play with characters from Universal-owned franchises.
Zoom in: Several of the attractions will incorporate water, a major plus for families needing to cool down in the North Texas heat.
The intrigue: The 97-acre project includes a 300-room hotel with a colorful facade that resembles Lego blocks.
What's next: Universal hasn't announced an opening date for the park, but there is a possibility it will open before the FIFA Men's World Cup next summer.
