👋 Axios editor Tyler Buchanan here, the biggest Texas Rangers fan in the Midwest.
Baseball has a way of humbling you.
It's said to be the only game where you can fail seven out of 10 times and still make the Hall of Fame.
Flashback: This time last year, Texas was poised to defend its first title.
"Everything is suddenly coming up Rangers," I wrote. "The baseball gods are finally smiling on North Texas."
Well. Let's see ... Josh Jung, my family's favorite player, broke his wrist in the first week and rookie phenom Evan Carter got sidelined with back issues.
The season never really got off the ground.
Reality check: Life is humbling, too. I bought a house last year and my kid turned 2.
Each day comes with a succession of triumphs, mistakes, joys and disappointments. Not unlike the average Rangers game!
What's next: Texas is favored to win the division and outfielder Wyatt Langford is projected to become a standout slugger.
I'm also supposed to potty train my kid this year.
The bottom line: To paraphrase Meat Loaf, two out of three won't be bad.
