5 years since Dallas COVID shutdowns started

• 119 people have died this year in Texas from confirmed cases of COVID, per state health data, and more than 23,000 cases have been reported.

Flashback: Dallas city officials canceled the 2020 St. Patrick's Day parade days before it was scheduled to take place. It was one of the first big coronavirus-related closures in the state.

Threat level: Texas health officials are currently monitoring another disease outbreak. More than 220 measles cases have been confirmed in West Texas.

• Rockwall County has confirmed one measles case that is unrelated to the West Texas outbreak.

Zoom out: Most people no longer track COVID or other illnesses and most believe the pandemic is over, according to recent polling.

• But most Americans say their lives are not back to pre-pandemic normalcy, per a Gallup poll.

Between the lines: 84% say they believe COVID has changed Americans' lives forever, according to the Axios-Ipsos American Health Index.

The intrigue: Texans, however, are more likely to say the country is on the right track now compared with February 2020, when the pandemic hadn't quite started in the U.S.
