Indoor activities to escape the cold

It's too cold too often to hibernate all winter long.

• Challenge yourself to leave home and do something fun during this cold snap. Here are some options:

🛝 Go for a swim. Epic Waters and Great Wolf Lodge are open all year, offering a break from sweltering summers and wicked winters.

🎰 Roll the dice. Drive to the Winstar or Choctaw casinos, or take a group to Great Big Game Show in The Colony or Activate Games in Southlake and Plano for TV-style competitions.

🖍️ Cater to the kids. Take them to a museum, Legoland Discovery Center or the Crayola Experience to get some of that energy out.

🛍️ Go for a stroll. You don't have to spend a dime for this activity. Pick a mall near you and take a walk in its controlled climate.

🍿 Sit down. Fewer people are going to the movies, but it's still a worthwhile indoor activity. Take advantage of the upgrades and discounts.

🏓 Rally the group. New pickleball courts keep popping up in North Texas, mirroring the sport's increasing popularity. D Magazine has this list of indoor courts.

⛳ Take a shot. Puttshack in Addison and Puttery in The Colony offer indoor minigolf.

The bottom line: Don't be SAD. Be glad … that our region has plenty of indoor activities because of our whack weather.
