Driving around town trying to figure out what's open on Thanksgiving Day is one of the worst ways to spend the holiday.
- Especially if you pull up to a place that Google Maps says is open, only to find that it isn't.
Why it matters: People celebrate in many different ways, from hibernating all day around food to keeping it low key as though it's a normal day.
The big picture: Around 91% of Americans plan to celebrate Thanksgiving in some way this year, per a Pew survey. Adults born in the U.S. are more likely to celebrate the holiday than immigrants, the survey found.
Yes, but: Most businesses are closed on Thanksgiving, including Costco, Sam's Club, Aldi, Target and Walmart.
- That's where going to the movies or driving around lights displays can help kill time.
🤞 What's open Thursday:
H-E-B: The grocery chain says its stores will be open from 6am-noon Thursday. H-E-B pharmacies will be closed.
Whole Foods: North Texas stores are open from 7am-1pm Thursday.
Central Market: Stores are open from 8am-2pm Thursday.
CVS: The company says its 270 locations across North Texas will be open on Thanksgiving, though some stores may have reduced hours. Call your store or check the CVS website before going.
McDonald's: Franchisees get to decide whether they'll stay open and, if so, for how long. Check the chain's website or app before leaving home.
GEN Korean BBQ: The Carrollton, Frisco, Dallas and Arlington locations will be open Thursday.
Movie theaters: "Wicked" is still playing in theaters, and "Moana 2" came out Wednesday. AMC, Cinemark and Alamo Drafthouse have showtimes this week, including on Thanksgiving.
ICE! at the Gaylord: The ice exhibit has slots available all week. Adult tickets are around $40.
