Grapevine Sam's Club reopens after 2022 tornado

• Between insurance claims and repairs, the recovery process can take a long time. Two Dallas schools also took years to reopen after a 2019 tornado nearly destroyed them.

Threat level: At least five tornadoes touched down in Dallas-Fort Worth in December 2022, damaging many businesses and injuring several people.

The intrigue: The rebuilt Grapevine Sam's Club will be the company's first all-digital store. There will be no checkout lines, and members will have to use the Scan & Go app to pay for items.

• The warehouse has the chain's first pizza robot, which can make more than 100 pizzas an hour, per a Sam's Club spokesperson.
• There's also an in-house tortilla machine and a "reimagined" cafe area.

Flashback: The Sam's Club was getting ready to open for the day when a tornado ripped through the roof, creating a hole over the clothing area. Workers were inside the store at the time but weren't injured.

• The warehouse store, which primarily serves the Southlake, Grapevine, Euless and Coppell areas, has been closed ever since. Many members wondered if it would ever reopen.

If you go: The soft opening is 5pm-8pm Wednesday. The Dallas Mavericks' Dereck Lively II will make an appearance from 6pm-7:30 pm.

• The grand opening is Thursday and will include appearances by football Hall of Famers Charles Haley and DeMarcus Ware.
• The Guinness World Record holder for walking the farthest distance barefoot on Lego bricks will also host an activity through Sunday.
