CEOs for DFW Airport and Dallas Mavericks announce retirement

• Under CEO Sean Donohue's leadership, DFW Airport became one of the world's busiests airports and North America's first carbon-neutral airport.

The intrigue: Marshall and Donohue both have careers spanning over 40 years and are key fixtures in their industries.

The airport: Donohue has been DFW Airport's CEO for 11 years and co-chairs the World Economic Forum's Aviation and Aerospace Committee.

• "In many ways, the story of DFW and North Texas are the same, having grown and supported one another for 50 years," Donohue said in a news release.
• In 2019, DFW was ranked 10th in the world by passenger volume. Last year, it was named the world's third busiest airport, after Atlanta and Dubai airports.
• The airport is currently making the biggest investment in its facilities since it opened in 1974. The $9 billion capital improvement plan includes building a sixth terminal and revamping Terminal C.

The basketball team: After over 30 years at Dallas-based AT&T, Marshall was running a consulting firm specializing in DEI and leadership when Mark Cuban cold-called her in 2018 about the Mavericks CEO role. He wanted her to help the Mavericks franchise with inclusion and diversity.

• As CEO, Marshall diversified the team's leadership structure, supported youth empowerment initiatives and strengthened a partnership with the Dallas Wings. She also wrote a book.

• "Bringing Cynt to the Mavericks six years ago was one of the smartest decisions I've ever made. She has led this organization to new heights with grace and integrity," Cuban said in a statement.

Between the lines: The Mavericks began preseason play this week and start the regular season later this month.

What's next: Marshall will retire as CEO on Dec. 31 and move into a consultant role for the Mavs through December 2025, per NBC5.

• Donohue will retire next year and plans to help the airport transition to its next CEO. Airport officials said they will conduct a global search to fill the position.
