After more than 100 years of crafting its cult favorite beer, Shiner has added spirits to its portfolio of pours.
State of distill: The historic brewery between Houston and San Antonio launched K. Spoetzl Distillery on its property last May.
Over the past year, the trio of spirits have been exclusively sold at the brewery.
Driving the news: Starting April 1, the vodka, gin and moonshine (called "Shiner Shine") will be on shelves at major stores throughout Dallas, including Spec's, Total Wine, Goody Goody and Twin Liquors.
Fun fact: All of the spirits use the same artesian water source discovered in 1909 by Czech and German immigrants and used in the recipes for Shiner Beer.
What they're making: Shiner Gin (43% ABV) took Shiner about eight months to develop. Like the beer, it uses Rio Grande Valley grapefruit peel, pecans and botanicals native to Shiner.
Shiner Vodka (40% ABV) is distilled 20 times for the smoothest possible flavor.
