Poll: What do you do when fellow CTA riders are too loud?

State of play: As someone acutely sensitive to sound, my anxiety and anger rise quickly when I have to listen to someone else's phone on public transit.

The latest: Recently, I fought back — in a civilized way. As my Red Line train sat idle "waiting for signal clearance," the man standing next to me blared his phone on full blast.

• I tapped him gently. "Will you please turn that down or put on headphones?"
• He looked annoyed, but he did it.

Reality check: Would every person respond as calmly as this rider? Perhaps not. In my case, the car was full, and the door was open so I could bolt if I needed to.

The bottom line: Let's try to be more like Japan and enjoy some peace on our commutes.
