This month, Gov. JB Pritzker announced attendance totals for the 2026 State Fairs (one in Springfield and one in Du Quoin) topped one million for the second consecutive year, citing affordability as a factor.
Why it matters: An Axios analysis of Midwest state fair prices bears out the assertion, showing Illinois' fairs as some of the most affordable in the region.
- A visit for an average family of four came out to about $145.
What they're saying: "Our State Fairs bring people together to celebrate all the things that make our state special. Affordable family fun remains a priority, and we delivered on that again this year in both Springfield and Du Quoin," Pritzker said in a press statement.
By the numbers: The Illinois State Fair in Springfield welcomed 714,231 visitors, the third-highest attendance total in its history, the Governor's office reported.
- Adding in the record-setting Du Quoin visitor numbers of 287,058, the total exceeded 1 million.
- Aug. 21 set a new record for single-day Fair attendance with 103,850 visitors.
- Country singers Lainey Wilson and Ella Langley tied for the all-time ticket sales record of 15,533 each.
Zoom in: This year's fairs offered special discounted admissions and reprised popular features like $3 and $5 food specials and a free grandstand concert.
🥩 Yes, but for Justin, this year's big draw was a massive pork chop on a stick.
