Wishbone closing: Iconic Chicago brunch spot to shut down after 36 years

Flashback: The restaurant has served Southern-inspired comfort food and cocktails since 1990. It opened in West Town before quickly outgrowing that space, expanding to Morgan Street in the West Loop and later to Lincoln Avenue in Lakeview.

Why it mattered: The Morgan Street location became one of Chicago's buzziest breakfast destinations thanks to its proximity to Harpo Studios, attracting Oprah Winfrey Show staff, audience, celebrities and politicians for decades.

Between the lines: Wishbone left its longtime Morgan Street home in 2018 and relocated near Ogilvie Transportation Center on Jefferson Street.

What's next: The owners said they'll remain open through August, though they haven't announced a final closing date.

What they're saying: "There is no easy way to say goodbye to something that has been such a large part of our lives for so long," owners Joel and Julie Nickson wrote on social media.
