Artists from Paul Simon to Snoop Dogg will perform this summer in Ravinia's newly renovated $70 million Hunter Pavilion.
Why it matters: Ravinia is a Chicago summer staple, attracting about 400,000 concertgoers each year. The pavilion is part of Highland Park venue's renovation plans across the park as it nears its 125th anniversary in 2029.
Zoom in: The pavilion has fewer seats this season to include wider seats for more comfort and ADA compliance. They're also cushioned with cup holders.
- LED lights have lowered the stage temperature, with nine fans to push out the hot air that can accompany so many July and August concerts.
- The renovation also includes a state-of-the-art audio system and modernized sound booths.
State of play: The Chicago Symphony Orchestra kicked off the new season, accompanying Lizzo, during a July 11 performance.
- CSO was scheduled to perform Mozart's "The Abduction from the Seraglio" on Thursday under James Conlon. That concert was canceled because of hazardous air quality.
- St. Vincent performs with the orchestra on July 25 and a curated concert of Quincy Jones' music on Aug. 13.
Who else to expect this season: Paul Simon takes the stage this Friday and Saturday, but other acts this summer include:
- Emmylou Harris and Graham Nash: July 26
- Chance the Rapper: Aug. 8
- Ricky Martin: Aug. 20
- Bonnie Raitt: Aug. 22
- Brandi Carlile: Aug. 26
- Snoop Dogg: Sept. 4
- Erykah Badu: Sept. 10
