Has any other veggie experienced more of a glow-up than Brussels sprouts have over the last decade?
Context: From the butt of jokes about food your parents forced you to eat to appearing on practically every menu, roasted, sauteed and glazed.
Reality check: Not every place has mastered the earthy bud.
- Here are our favorite Brussels sprouts in Chicago.
Carrie's pick: I'm going with Thai Brussels Sprouts ($12) at Mother's Ruin in Avondale (see above). No mushy Brussies here!
- The crunch of the cashews, char of the leaves and heat of the chili oil all cooled down with the splash of a lime, make this dish less of a side and more the main attraction.
Justin's pick: The Crispy Maple Cashew Brussels Sprouts ($16) at Moonflower in Portage Park.
- This place is known as a great neighborhood cocktail bar, but it slings some delicious food, too, including these tasty morsels.
- I could describe them, but the name speaks for itself. I ordered for the table and they were gone lickety split.
- Go for the amazing 4-6pm happy hour specials, but splurge on the brussies.
Monica's pick: For my favorite, I go to Peanut Park Trattoria in Little Italy, which calls them cavoletti ($13) and serves them with lemon honey and roasted squash.
- The sweet, crispy, frizzled edges of the Brussels give way to creamy, nutty centers. Delish.
