Tom Morello's musical "Revolution(s)" is off to a hot start, as the Goodman Theatre has already extended the run due to popular demand.
The big picture: Morello, who is the guitarist for Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, can add writing a musical to his long list of achievements, which includes two Grammy wins and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nod.
- The rocker grew up in the Chicago area, which he still visits regularly. So naturally, he has opinions on where to eat, shop and play.
We asked Tom Morello for his perfect day in Chicago.
๐ฅ Breakfast: "There's a perfect little spot in Libertyville that I've taken my kids to since they were little. It's called Picnic Basket. I mean, my mom took me there as a kid. Awesome."
๐ด Morning activity: "Some suburban bike riding. You get a little exercise, maybe see some deer out there. Any of the beautiful woods in the northern suburbs are worth the trip."
๐ Lunch: "Hillery's B-B-Q. The one in North Chicago burned down, but I think it's still open in Waukegan. (Editor's note: It is) Definitely gonna get some catfish and some rib tips."
๐ฆ Afternoon activity: "We gotta have time for the Field Museum. I've spent a lot of time there, love to take my kids. If I had extra time, I'd hit up the aquarium or the planetarium. But the Field Museum is just the best."
๐ฆ Dinner: "Joe's Stone Crab downtown would be the spot. Great seafood, great spot to sit down with friends. Their lobster is pretty delicious."
๐งข Evening activity: "Cubs game at Wrigley. Preferably a World Series clinching game. After the big win, me and my old high school buddies would do some sort of pub crawl in Wrigleyville."
๐ Late night: "I'm gonna need a late night meal for sure, so that's where I'll hit up some deep dish. Some Lou Malnati's or something like that. It's late, but I can't leave that off the board."
What's next: Morello's "Revolution(s)" runs through Nov. 16 at the Goodman Theatre.
