Chicago International Film Festival brings you the world

Zoom in: "One Golden Summer" opens and closes the fest, telling the story of Jackie Robinson West Little League, which became the first all-Black team to win the Little League U.S. Baseball Championship in 2014.

• The team became international stars until it was stripped away following an investigation into eligibility requirements.
• The film plays at 2:30pm Oct. 26 at the Logan Center for the Arts, Screening Room.

Chicagoan Alex Phillips' film, "Anything That Moves," follows a bike messenger and sex worker traversing across Chicago, but takes a twist when his client winds up dead.

• Screens at 10pm Oct. 25 and Oct. 26 at AMC NEWCITY 14, Screen 06.

Zoom out: Tajikistan, Argentina, Iceland, Nigeria and dozens more countries have films on the roster.

• CIFF isn't just about Indie darlings either. Filmmakers Gus Van Sant, Spike Lee and Nia DaCosta get tributes at special events.

💭 My thought bubble: The fest is like the cheapest way to travel around the world. Seeing the culture, people and landscapes from new places is a learning experience.

• And it's just really fun to be surrounded by fellow film lovers. Movies are always better at the theater after all.
