United Center has new food options for the upcoming Blackhawks and Bulls seasons.
Driving the news: The Blackhawks' regular season home opener is Saturday at 6pm.
The big picture: The West Side sports and concert venue will spotlight the Blackhawks' 100th anniversary with a centennial six-stack burger, jumbo hot dogs and loaded waffle fries.
Fun fact: The first 100 customers to order an Old Fashioned at Rocky's Bar get to take home a special, commemorative Yeti.
What to expect: Whether you're looking for something filling or light, this year's new concessions menu has you covered.
- Queenie's Supper Club in the East Atrium has "Queenie's cut" topped with shishito peppers. It's flavorful and juicy — ideal for a pre-game dine-in experience.
- The crinkle cut loaded fries available at most gates are topped with cheese, lettuce and jalapeños, but may not leave a lot of extra room to try other dishes.
- If you're feeling adventurous, try the elote hot dogs topped with cotija cheese and Hot Cheetos dust.
Dig in: Mindy Segal of Mindy's Bakery in Bucktown has whipped up some new sweet treats.
- For the chocolate lovers, the chocolate mousse tarts are decadent, but the mousse is nice and light.
- The apple strudel was my favorite. The whipped cream and caramel topping gave just the right touch of sweetness, making it the perfect pastry for fall.
- I'd suggest the lemon cake if you're looking for something light and refreshing.
