Chicago plover chicks named El, Bean and Ferris

• They were chosen from more than 500 name suggestions sent to local conservation groups.

Catch up quick: In 2019, the chicks' grandparents Monty and Rose wowed Chicagoans as the first nesting pair spotted in Cook County since the '50s.

• This year, conservationists say the Great Lakes have hit a new recovery record with 85 pairs across the region, the most since they were placed on the endangered species list in the 1980s.

Bird bonus: Local avian fans have also been cheering on the recovery of Baby Dragon, a pigeon nestling in the care of the Great Lakes Pigeon Rescue, who was found hobbling around downtown.
