Chicago's Spaghedough blends Black tradition, seafood and sauce

For nearly a century, Black Chicagoans have paired fried seafood with soft, saucy spaghetti in a combo linked to Deep South Italians in the 1800s and the Great Migration.

Zoom in: More recently, that tradition inspired the creation of "Spaghedough" by Chris Fryison, who operates Doughboy's Chicago out of a virtual kitchen at 2537 S. Wabash Ave.

Yes, but: Fryison's pasta dish boosts the sweetness and works ground turkey and turkey sausage into the sauce.

The verdict: Spaghedough recalls the famously sugary pasta with hot dogs from Filipino chain Jollibee, but Fryison tells Axios, "I've never heard of the place."

The bottom line: If you like your pasta sweet and soft, this is the spaghetti for you.
