A new musical on stage now spotlights historic, but lesser-known, African American women who challenged segregation and fought for equal rights.
Driving the news: Chicago Opera Theater's "She Who Dared" opened this week at the Fine Arts Building.

What to expect: This lively ensemble transports the audience back to the 1950s through interesting production design and period costumes.
Throughout the show the women sing phrases like "Time to mount up," "Change starts today," and "Lord help us spark more change to come" to convey their struggle and hope for a better future.
There is also a brief intermission and light snacks are available for purchase.
