Chicago celebrates Pope Leo XIV with citywide mass

The Chicago Archdiocese will host a mass next month to honor Pope Leo XIV, the first Chicago-born pope.

Driving the news: The announcement comes on the heels of Leo's inaugural mass Sunday at the Vatican.

State of play: The event will be June 14 at Rate Field and will include music, film and in-person testimonials, followed by a full Catholic Mass.

What they're saying: "This celebration is an extraordinary opportunity for people from the city and beyond to come together in shared pride for one of our own," the archdiocese said in an announcement.

What's next: The archdiocese says ticket information will be released this week.

What we're watching: President Trump on Monday invited the pope to the White House.

If Leo accepts, the visit would be the first time a pope has visited the White House since Pope Francis visited then-President Obama in 2015, Axios' April Rubin reported.
