Chicago has seen several businesses close up shop this spring, as labor and other costs remain high and consumer habits change.
The latest: Au Cheval, home of the world-famous cheeseburger and a destination for culinary tourists, announced it was closing for remodeling.
Yes, but: It's just for a few weeks.
Here are some more notable closings from March to May:
Deep dish history: The Chicago institution that has slung deep dish pizzas for half a century announced it is closing at the end of June. My Pie (also known as My Pi) owner Rich Aronson's father opened the first restaurant in Rogers Park along Sheridan Road.
- It's not just My Pie. Aurelio's in the South Loop is closing at the end of the month. It's the only Aurelio's within city limits.

Going back to the farm: The nightclub/restaurant Welcome to the Farm opened up less than a year ago in River North, but the Roquan Smith- and Jimmy Butler-owned country-themed club is now gone.

Silver Room: The Hyde Park jewelry and apparel store isn't closing, but it just began a fundraising campaign to stave off shutting its doors. The Silver Room is still trying to pay off $200,000 in debt from its beloved Silver Room Block Party, which ended in 2023.
Build it up: Build Coffee Shop in Woodlawn was saved from closure by some loyal customers. Poet, educator and author Eve L. Ewing is one of the new owners who stepped forward to save the cozy coffee shop off 61st Street.

Sing us a song, you're the … DJ man? Davenport's in Wicker Park is changing formats. The longtime cabaret club was a unique addition to the Wicker Park strip. But owners say patrons have turned their backs on the piano and instead are opting for turntables. The club plans to turn into more of a DJ-centric spot with bottle service.
Other notable closings: Bar Louie in Printer's Row, Sociale in Printer's Row, On Tour Brewing in West Town, Milly's Pizza in Uptown (moving to West Town), Lyon's Den in Ukrainian Village and of course, the State Street Bridge.
- But have no fear; the city says the bridge will reopen in November.
