I've driven past Choppers on Ashland hundreds of times, always wondering about the mysterious Choppak. This month, I finally tried it for our Sweet Home series.
The dish: The Choppak ($9.99) features a big juicy double cheeseburger layered with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, mustard and ketchup on a griddle-toasted bun that's always paired with creamy coleslaw and thick, crunchy steak fries.
Proper pronunciation: While most people call it a CHOH-pak, the menu calls it a "happy meal for adults" or a Choppers package.
- So, should we be saying CHOP-pack? Technically, yes, but staffers say no one really does.
The big question: A guy in line behind me said he regularly drives from the South Side for his Choppak fix, so I wondered how it compares to the South Side's famous Big Baby double cheese.
The verdict: Bigger, juicier and kinda healthier with that lettuce and tomato layer, right?
