Student-staffed Sikia serves up a great deal

Englewood's only fine dining restaurant, Sikia, reopened in January after a five-year hiatus, serving three-course meals for $15.
- It's arguably the best dining deal in town, so it took some waiting for a reservation, but we finally snagged one.
Context: Sikia can offer low prices because it's staffed by Washburne Culinary and Hospitality Institute students in Kennedy-King College's two-year culinary program.
Dig in: Diners select three courses from a menu that offers bruschetta, arancini and stuffed mushrooms to start.
- Entrees include Greek lemon chicken, teriyaki salmon, pasta primavera and braised short rib over polenta.
- Desserts feature peanut butter cheesecake and coconut crème brûlée.
The service: Friendly and polished with server Azaria Randle confidently describing the sweet, spicy and salted butters that come with warm bread, and Antoine Beale attending to constant persnickety needs.
The grade: A+! Given the delicious food, elegant ambiance and outstanding service, we could see diners spending three times the price for this student meal.
Warning: The $15 covers the meal and the tip, so bring cash if you want to leave extra.
The bummer: Sikia, which is only open Tuesday through Thursday for lunch, is fully booked for the rest of the semester ending on April 1, with a deep waiting list, management says.
- A new semester starts in September when the restaurant will start taking reservations again.
