Over 2,000 Axios readers chose the Standing Lincoln statue in Lincoln Park as Chicago's best.
- Erected in 1887, it is considered one of the great public art pieces of the 19th century.
Fun fact: It's one of five Lincoln statues in Chicago. This beauty is tucked behind the Chicago History Museum just south of LaSalle Street.
The latest: Ald. Anthony Napolitano (41st) is pushing for the Columbus statues to be reinstalled after they were removed during protests in 2020.
Context: The city has over 400 statues and monuments and our weekly tournament featured just a few of the greats, including the Ernie Banks statue outside Wrigley Field and the Statue of the Republic in Jackson Park.
Methodology: It was very difficult choosing just 16 statues to face off.
