This week, the Illinois Flag Commission announced 10 finalists in the running to be the state's new flag.
- We asked you to pick your favorite.
The results: 21% of you like No. 6 (above), which features a bust of Abraham Lincoln inside an outline of Illinois.
- Close behind with 16% was design No. 7, which features an outline of the state within a ring of stars.
- Your least favorite? Only 2% of you voted for the design with the Monarch, Illinois' state butterfly.
What they're saying: The designer of Axios readers' preferred flag wrote this about the submission:
- "The circle of 21 stars represents our communal togetherness and honors our state being the 21st to join the USA. The white star symbolizes Chicago and its upper-right location. Dark blue represents our blue-collar attitude and industrial power. Gold represents our prairie and agricultural history. White represents our bright spirit."
What's next: The public can vote online beginning in January.
