In honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day on Monday, let's take a quick glance at indigenous populations in our area.
By the numbers: In 2023, about 2.2% of the state's overall population identified as American Indian on the census. The population in Illinois is 12.8 million.
- In Cook County, 112,175 people identify as American Indian, while the second highest population (25,629) live in Will County.
