I'll confess that I'm kind of obsessed with housewares and those Asian tchotchke stores.
- So when a friend recently told me about "a Chinese Ikea" in the basement of the 88 Marketplace building in Chinatown, I had to check it out.
The place: Unity Homeware, which blends the cute vibes of a Miniso with the kitchenware of a Bed, Bath & Beyond and the adorable dishware of an Anthropologie.
The products: Amid the array of inexpensive pots, pans, kitchen gadgets, slippers, moleskin journals, stationery, beauty products, toys and games, I picked up some darling dishes.
- I also scored a sun-protective jacket ($9.99) equipped with a visored hood. I was afraid it would feel too hot on a recent steamy walk, but, as advertised, it actually cooled me down.
The verdict: Though not nearly the size of an Ikea, this charming store — with, as far as I can tell, no website nor sister locations — scratches the itch for affordable home goods and some uniquely Asian items.
