The fine art: Goodman extends show before it opens

The Goodman Theatre's production of "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" has been extended, and it hasn't even officially opened.
The big picture: The musical, based on the best-selling 1994 nonfiction book by John Berendt, announced that tickets are in such demand that the production will now run through Aug. 11. It opens July 8.

The intrigue: If you want to meet Berendt, he'll be doing a talk and book signing at the Goodman on July 6.
The bottom line: You know you have a hit on your hands when you extend your theatrical production before it even opens.
