Jeremy Roenick gets into Hockey Hall of Fame

Former Blackhawks forward Jeremy Roenick is heading to the Hockey Hall of Fame.

The big picture: Roenick played his first eight seasons with the Hawks, notching three-straight 100 point seasons from 1991 to 1994. He was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes in 1996 and played for several teams before retiring in 2009.

Roenick led the 'Hawks to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1992, but they lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The intrigue: Gaining entry wasn't easy. Roenick was eligible for the Hall of Fame since 2012 but has been passed over.

By the numbers: Roenick scored 513 goals and 703 assists in 1,363 games.

He ranks 4th in all-time goals among U.S.-born NHL players.

What he's saying: "I'm at a loss for words, and I'm never at a loss for words," Roenick said in a statement.

"Getting over this last hockey hurdle means so much to me."

Zoom out: Roenick is part of the seven-member class of 2024, which includes two women from the U.S. Olympic team.
