Wayfair will open its highly anticipated Atlanta storefront later this month.
Why it matters: The location, which will be the company's second brick-and-mortar store, fills a major hole at The District at Howell Mill shopping center that's been vacant since late 2022 when Walmart closed.
- Wayfair opened its first store in May 2024 in the Chicago suburb of Wilmette.
Driving the news: Wayfair opens to customers at 10am March 31, and will host a grand opening celebration April 17-19.
Zoom in: The roughly 150,000-square-foot store will be the "one stop shop for all things home," the company said Tuesday in a press release.
- A Wayfair representative previously told Axios the store will have 19 departments, including home improvement, furniture, decor and outdoor living.
- Also on tap will be The Porch, an all-day café where shoppers can fuel up on food and drinks.
- Wayfair's hours of operation will be 10am to 8pm Monday through Saturday and 11am to 7pm Sunday.
Yes, but: Customers will be able to take home some purchases, but certain larger items, like couches, will ship from Wayfair's nearby fulfillment center in McDonough, the company previously told Axios.
Catch up quick: Walmart announced in December 2022 it would close its supercenters on Howell Mill Road and in the Vine City community after fires were set inside both places.
- Walmart rebranded the Vine City location into a Neighborhood Market and reopened it in 2024, but the Howell Mill store closure was permanent.
What's next: More details about the grand opening weekend celebration can be viewed on Wayfair's website. You can also check out job openings for the store.
💭 Kristal's thought bubble: I'm interested to see how much traffic Wayfair will attract compared to Walmart.
- The location is tricky to access because there's only one way in and one way out. It's also completely underground, which made driving through the parking lot tricky because it was poorly lit. I hope that will improve.
- The entire shopping center is stressful to navigate because it's always so busy.
