Judge threatens Giuliani with contempt in Georgia election workers case

Driving the news: Giuliani this week missed a deadline to turn over property that includes a shirt signed by New York Yankees legend Joe DiMaggio and a 1980 Mercedes once owned by movie star Lauren Bacall.

• Giuliani has said that he doesn't remember what he has in storage and he's had trouble accessing a full list from the owner of a Long Island facility.
• "The notion that your client doesn't have any knowledge of where his assets are located is farcical," Liman said to Giuliani's lawyers on Thursday, per the New York Times.
• The judge said he's "sure" he'll "get a motion for contempt" if Giuliani doesn't comply with next week's deadline, according to ABC News.
• "If he hasn't delivered, and there is a way in which he could have delivered, he'll be subject to contempt sanctions."

Context: Fulton County poll workers Freeman and Moss accused Giuliani in a December 2021 lawsuit of engaging in a smear campaign by repeatedly claiming they helped change the election results in Georgia so President Biden would win.

• In August 2023, a judge ruled Giuliani was liable for defamation, civil conspiracy and intentional infliction of emotional distress. A jury in December ordered him to pay damages to the women.
• Guiliani sought bankruptcy protection, but a federal judge in N.Y. later dismissed the case.
