Rudy Giuliani formally disbarred in D.C.

Driving the news: The District of Columbia Court of Appeals officially disbarred Giuliani in an opinion filed Thursday, citing New York's decision to strip him of his license.

• An ethics panel recommended Giuliani, once a top prosecutor in Manhattan, be disbarred last year, saying in a report, "He sought to disrupt a presidential election and persists in his refusal to acknowledge the wrong he has done."
• In 2022, the attorney disciplinary counsel found he had violated rules of professional conduct via his false claims of election fraud.
• Giuliani has been a member of the D.C. Bar since 1976 but has long been inactive.
• A representative for Giuliani did not respond to Axios' request for comment.

Flashback: Earlier this year, Giuliani lost his license in New York, with a panel of judges writing he "flagrantly misused" his position as Trump's lawyer and "deliberately violated some of the most fundamental tenets of the legal profession."

• A spokesperson said at the time he would appeal the New York disbarment decision.

State of play: In May, Giuliani pleaded not guilty in Arizona's fake electors case, which is set to go to trial next month.

• He was forced to post a $10,000 bond in that case after he allegedly evaded officials' attempts to serve him — eventually receiving notice the same day as his 80th birthday party in Florida.
• He's also a co-defendant in Trump's Georgia election interference case, which has been stalled amid efforts to push prosecutor Fani Willis off the case.
• Last year, he was ordered to pay $148 million for defaming two Georgia election workers as part of the alleged plot to overturn the election — and all the while, he's been racking up significant legal fees.
