Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said Tuesday his campaign has received more than 4 million individual contributions.

Why it matters: Per Sanders' tweet, the milestone means his campaign is the fastest-ever to reach that fundraising mark.

  • The donation count serves as another boost for the top-tier candidate on the eve of the fifth Democratic primary debate in Atlanta.
  • Sanders' strength has further been accentuated as three members of the influential progressive group of congresswomen "'The Squad" have endorsed him for the 2020 ticket.
