Amtrak opens new Seattle maintenance digs for Airo trains

Catch up quick: The first two Airo trains began carrying Cascades passengers last month, and more are on the way.

• Amtrak has ordered eight Airo trainsets for the Cascades route, with the new trains expected to gradually replace the existing fleet through early 2027.

Why it matters: The facility lets crews inspect, clean and service entire trainsets under cover, reducing downtime as more Airo trains join the Cascades fleet, per Amtrak.

Zoom out: Seattle's is the first of six new Amtrak maintenance yards opening around the country.
