Want a curbside EV charger on your Seattle block? Apply now

Driving the news: Seattle City Light started accepting applications for new charger locations this month, and will continue accepting them through next fall.

• City officials intend to install as many as 200 new curbside Level 2 EV chargers in Seattle through 2030, using money from the city transportation levy.
• You can apply for one here.

How it works: The Level 2 chargers are designed for overnight charging near people's homes and can add up to 30 miles of range per hour.

• Anyone can use them while parked on the street. They're available on a first-come, first-served basis.
• The city has already installed 58 curbside Level 2 chargers at 31 locations. They currently cost $0.21 per kilowatt-hour to use.

What's next: The city will prioritize densely populated, walkable areas that lack nearby curbside chargers.

• It will also consider clusters of requests, apartment buildings with limited charging options and neighborhoods burdened by pollution.
• Locations will be chosen in batches of 40-50, with installations running from fall 2027 through 2030.
