Say goodbye to our last 8pm sunset of the year.
Why it matters: Long summer evenings are one of the great rewards for enduring Seattle winters — and losing them is a sure sign that our season in the sun is winding down.
By the numbers: The sun sets at 8:01pm Wednesday. On Thursday, it slips below the horizon at 7:59pm.
- We're down more than two hours of daylight since the summer solstice, and shedding another three minutes a day.
The big picture: The birds are migrating, the evenings are shrinking and the Big Dark is lurking just around the corner.
Flashback: It was only April when Seattle celebrated its first 8pm sunset of the year — the point when patios, parks and waterfronts started feeling like ours again.
The bottom line: Enjoy tonight's light. We won't get another 8pm sunset until spring.
