Where to see "The Odyssey" in Seattle as Nolan intended

Seattle is home to two of the few U.S. theaters showing Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" in the format the director intended.

SIFF Cinema Downtown is screening the adaptation of Homer's epic in 70mm IMAX, as is AMC Pacific Place 11.

Catch up quick: "The Odyssey" was the first narrative film to be shot entirely using IMAX cameras, according to IMAX.

The format offers the the highest-quality image and sound from the original film.
"IMAX is the best film format that was ever invented. It's the gold standard and what any other technology has to match up to, but none have," Nolan said in a press release.

Reality check: Very few theaters worldwide can project 70mm IMAX film.

The IMAX website lists 25 operating U.S. theaters equipped with 70mm IMAX screens. (That count does not include the two Seattle locations.)

The other side: You can still check out "The Odyssey" at other theaters. You just won't see the film as Nolan envisioned it.

Moviegoers can see the film in IMAX digital and "exhibitor PLFs" — large screen formats developed by theater chains like Regal RPX and Cinemark XD.
It'll also be available in Dolby Cinema.
