I finally got over to Gas Works Park to see the changes to the gasification towers, which were recently stripped of many of their ladders and catwalks for safety reasons.
The towers' new, smoother appearance definitely takes some getting used to for someone like me, who lived within a mile of the park for more than a decade.
Yes, but: As the mother of two young boys who will almost certainly do some extremely stupid things while growing up — like climbing things they shouldn't — I can also see how removing those access points could help prevent future tragedies.
