Friday is Juneteenth, which commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States.
- Across Seattle, you'll find community festivals, live music, cultural programming and family-friendly events celebrating the holiday.
Here are a few of our favorite options.
Atlantic Street Center Juneteenth Celebration
Thursday
Local artists, vendors and performers will anchor the center's 25th annual Juneteenth celebration, alongside family activities and food trucks. 5–8pm at the Rainier Beach Community Center Plaza.
Summer of Soul Juneteenth Freedom Fest
Friday
The annual outdoor bash will feature live music, food vendors, cultural performances, local organizations and family activities. 1–8pm at Jimi Hendrix Park.
Juneteenth: The Sound of Connection at NAAM
Friday
The Northwest African American Museum is offering free admission, with a celebration from 11am to 5pm that will include hands-on family activities, performances and a World Cup watch party.
- The museum's popular Skate to Freedom event will take place at nearby Judkins Park from noon to 5pm.
Seattle Juneteenth Community Celebration
Friday
This HBCU-themed block party will feature DJs, craft beverages, a market and a kids zone in the heart of downtown Seattle. You'll find the event on the east side of Second Avenue (in the plaza of the 1201 Third building), between Seneca and University streets. 9am–6pm.
Freedom and Futbol
Friday
Head to Midtown Square in the Central District for food, music and a noon viewing party for the U.S. team's World Cup match vs. Australia. 11am–4pm.
Revival Juneteenth Market
Saturday
This pop-up market in Midtown Square will feature a live broadcast from KEXP DJs, performances, food vendors and plenty of Black-owned businesses. Noon–5pm.
It Takes a Village Juneteenth Celebration
Saturday
Celebrate with family activities, food and live performances, while supporting Black-owned businesses. New Holly Gathering Hall, 2-6pm.
