Jubilant Seattle Seahawks fans poured into the streets after their team won the Super Bowl on Sunday — setting off fireworks, climbing light poles and even scaling a century-old pergola that police had previously begged them to leave alone.
Why it matters: Seattle's defeat of the New England Patriots marked only the second time the Seahawks have won an NFL title. And fans weren't about to let the moment pass them by.
Police closed off some streets to protect revelers as the celebration continued into the evening.
Here are a few scenes from Seattle's Pioneer Square neighborhood, where thousands of people came out to show their Seahawks spirit Sunday night.

Some fans climbed the neighborhood's historic pergola, an iron and glass structure built in 1909 that police had asked revelers to stay away from before the game. (So much for those warnings.)
- "Please stop," the police department reiterated on X Sunday night, directing its message to those perched atop the structure.

Light poles and trees were not immune, either.

Fireworks went off — not just at the Space Needle, but also in other parts of town where personal use of fireworks is typically not allowed.

For many of those joining in, shirts became optional, despite temperatures in the 40s.

A formal victory parade is set to be held in downtown Seattle on Wednesday.
