Seattle could get a peek at spring this week

Why it matters: The near-spring warmth is arriving in the heart of winter — and shortly after the 76th anniversary of Seattle's all-time record low of zero degrees, set on Jan. 27, 1950, per NWS Seattle.

State of play: A ridge of high pressure is building over the region, ushering in warmer air through at least midweek.

• Highs will run about 10 degrees above average for this time of year, said NWS Seattle meteorologist Dustin Guy.

Yes, but: Don't expect sunshine to go along with the warmth — skies will likely stay mostly cloudy and foggy, Guy said.

Context: While much of the country, including the East Coast, is dealing with frigid temperatures, Seattle is getting a dose of what could be called "springuary."

The bottom line: It may not be sunbathing season, but it sure doesn't feel like January, either.
