Amazon cuts nearly 2,200 Washington jobs

Driving the news: The cuts will begin April 28 and stretch into June, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed Friday with the Employment Security Department.

• The layoffs will affect dozens of offices across Seattle and Bellevue, plus 116 remote Washington workers.

• That comes after roughly 14,000 global layoffs the company announced in October, which included about 2,300 in the Seattle area, according to state filings

The big picture: Amazon's cuts come amid a wider wave of tech layoffs in the Puget Sound region.

• Bellevue-based T-Mobile disclosed 393 Washington layoffs in a WARN notice posted Monday.
• Expedia notified WARN last week of 162 layoffs, including nearly 50 roles with "software development" in the title as well as nearly 30 director-level positions.

• "Some of the layoffs are the result of, or will result in, the relocation or contracting out of Expedia's operations or the employees' positions," the Seattle-based company said in the filing.

Plus: Zillow told Axios last week it had cut about 200 workers in January through performance-based reviews.
