Woodland Park Zoo is celebrating the arrival of two baby African lion cubs — the first born there in more than a decade — to proud first-time mother Ilanga and father Tandie.
Why it matters: The fuzzy newcomers are part of a special third-generation lion family at the zoo and a small but mighty win for conservation of the vulnerable species, of which there are an estimated 23,000–39,000 in the wild, per the zoo.
Tandie is the son of the late Xerxes, who lived at the zoo until he passed away in 2022.
What's next: For now, the cubs are snuggled up with mom in a quiet maternity den, growing stronger until they're ready to make their public debut.
