Seattle will host the North American Vexillological Association's 59th annual meeting today through Sunday, the first time the nation's top flag experts will gather in Washington state.
The big picture: The conference comes as some local advocates continue pushing to modernize Seattle's city flag.
Organizers hope the event will bring fresh energy — and visibility — to the effort ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, when Seattle will host matches on the world stage.
The latest: The nonprofit Seattle City Flag, a group pushing for a Seattle flag redesign, has received local arts funding to advance the effort, the group's executive director, Jackson Ridl, told Axios.
What's next: Registration to the convention is open, and today's lecture on the flags of Canada is free to the public.
