A sandwich to write home about: the nduja from Bottega Gabriele. Photo: Melissa Santos/Axios
Bottega Gabriele, which opened in Pioneer Square earlier this year, is the Italian deli of my dreams.
Visit at lunchtime, and you'll find customers queueing up for sandwiches that showcase the shop's imported selection of Italian cheeses and cured meats.
What to expect: Each menu item provides a few unexpected twists.
The mortadella sandwich is punched up with lemon zest, ricotta and hot honey, while the pancetta comes layered with burrata and roasted walnuts.
Don't miss thenduja sandwich, which pairs the namesake spreadable spicy sausage with capocollo, salami and arugula — plus a layer of olive tapenade and artichoke.
