The Mariners gave Seattle the playoff game it needed last night.
Why it matters: With their Game 2 victory, the M's tied the American League Division Series 1-1 — and delivered the franchise's first home playoff win since 2001.
State of play: The M's edged out the Tigers 3–2 yesterday after losing the American League Division Series opener in extra innings on Saturday.
Facing Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal, Seattle's Jorge Polanco launched two home runs to give the Mariners a 2–0 lead going into the eighth inning.
Detroit rallied in the eighth when a walk and a Josh Naylor error put two on, both scoring on a Spencer Torkelson double to tie it, per MLB.com.
In the bottom of the inning, Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodríguez hit back-to-back doubles to put Seattle back on top.
Between the lines: Starter Luis Castillo allowed just one hit over more than four innings, and Andrés Muñoz shut down the Tigers in the ninth to seal the win.
What's next: The best-of-five series shifts to Detroit for Game 3 on Tuesday.
